Welcome to Himmelbjerget Danish Camp!
Camp is June 24-30, 2012
Himmelbjerget Danish Camp offers a unique opportunity for kids 12 to 18 to learn about the history, people, culture, language and traditions of Denmark, preserving Danish culture in the next generation while making new friends and having a ton of fun.
This year’s theme is CASTLES. Campers will learn about these traditional strongholds of Denmark, the stories of knights and kings (and queens!), of bravery, cunning, and everyday life in the keep. There will also be Danish songs and basic language, folk dancing, arts & crafts, and of course the chance to create new legends to stand the test of time!
Please check back in January for forms, pricing and scholarship information.
Kronborg Castle
Kronborg is a star fortress situated near the town of Helsingør (immortalized as Elsinore in Shakespeare’s Hamlet) on the extreme northeastern tip of Zealand at the narrowest point of the Øresund, the sound between Denmark and Sweden. In this part, the sound is only 4 km wide, hence the strategic importance of maintaining a sea fortress at this location commanding one of the few outlets of the Baltic Sea. The castle has for centuries been one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe and was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites list on November 30, 2000.
Egeskov Slot
Egeskov Slot is on the middle island of Fyn. It was built in 1554 and is complete with a moat and a drawbridge.
